Living Outside the Proverbial Box
I’ve always been a ‘left of center’ type of gal. I do things my own way. The last thing I’d ever want to be is a stereotypical musician, artist, or sales person. And I don’t try to fit in any societal box. The more experience I gain the more I realize how important this is, especially when it comes to branding and business.
Although you don’t want to alienate people, it’s good to have your own brand. The last thing you should be is a watered down version of someone else’s brand. By doing things your own way you’ll be identifiable and stand out from the crowd. It’s such a noisy world, that you have to dare to be different or you can easily be forgotten.
When I first starting to write and perform music I wanted to fit in. I wanted to be on radio, and be a star….but then I realized that if you try to chase what everyone else is doing you’ll never have your own identity. You’ll always be referred to as “she sounds like blah blah”. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have influences but you shouldn’t be mistaken for anything other than you! That was the last thing I wanted, and after a long hard road I decided to embrace the fact that I’m different artistically. Once I did that, doors started opening and things began to happen. No I’m not a household name yet, but everyone in the industry knows who I am, and they know exactly what I’m all about. I successfully have my own brand.
The same goes for selling Lamborghini’s. When I first started I would discourage crazy color combos or strange option choices, because I was worried about resale. However, the more my clientele grew and the stronger the brand became, I realized that it really doesn’t matter what colour the client chooses and believe it or not, the crazier it is….the easier it is to sell it later, because it’s unique! Lamborghini clients, more than any other brand, are eccentric and they love to have a unique car. Each person has their own style and at the end of the day the brand is strong enough to support any colour combo they choose.
I realize that like myself, I’m fortunate to have a clientele that is embracing “out of the box” thinking. It’s a beautiful thing and I’m so glad to be ordering interesting and fun combinations. It makes life interesting and It’s nice to see people walk on the wild side and be open to something unpredictable. At the end of the day, whether it’s in business or branding, embrace the real you and don’t worry if it’s different. It takes all types to make this world go round, otherwise it would be a very boring world!
Speaking of “outside of the box” check out this week’s video featuring my delivery of a Lamborghini Huracan 580-2 in Viola SE 30th edition paint! She’s one of a kind!
